On Sunday 27th May 2012, it's the 'John Baron Chairty Fun Walk', held at Barleylands, Billericay.
The event is organised by the local council and any charity or good cause can take part. Entry is free for the sponsored walk. There are two distances to choose from, one is a short walk just around the Barleylands estate and the longer walk is about 3 miles long and goes out across the local countryside.
Each year the council appeal to local businesses to donate money to the 'charity pot'. Last year they collected £36,000. This money is then shared out to all participants to increase the money raised from them doing the sponsored walk.
In addition, for all charities and good causes taking part in the walk there is the opportunity to have a free stall pitch at Barleylands to earn even more cash. There is also live music and a BBQ. The only catch is that the charity must supply at least one volunteer to help marshal the walk.
I believe last year Claire took part with her son Freddie and greyhound Slippy and they raised money for Castledon.
Would anyone like to do this walk this year for Castledon? If so, let me know and I'll get a copy of the entry form out to you.

I had thought of doing this, but just noticed it's the same date as the Greyhound Extravaganza in Newmarket.
Since I can't do both and Newmarket is localish.... I'll happily sponsor someone who is doing it!
I think I know which Dixie would prefer, but till he can drive himself he won't always get his own way!!

Is there anyone out there who would be prepared to be a marshall for Castledon at the forthcoming Barleylands Fun Walk? The walk takes place on Sunday 27th May and provides a wonderful opportunity to raise a great amount of money for Castledon. The walk is organised by the local MP and charities etc are invited to get as many of their supporters as they can to do the walk and get sponsored for it. The great thing about it is that there is a bonus pot that last year matched each £1000 raised in sponsorship with an extra £850! Last year, Freddie Suett and his greyhound Slippy (and mum, Claire!) did the walk, raising £301 in sponsorship, which was boosted by an extra £263 from the bonus pot!! ;D The only proviso is that each organisation taking part has to supply a marshall, to ensure people don't get lost etc SO, is there any kind person out there who would be willing to take this on for us? We'd be ever so grateful if there is Once we've got our marshall organised. we can register for the walk and get sponsorship forms out to anyone who'd like to come along. Please either post here or pm me (andreak) if you'd like to volunteer or would like more information Thank you!

Yo, Bob! ;D Jezza, Ruby and Elsa have been hard at work building up their stamina for the walk. Here's a piccy of them relaxing in the garden after their last 'training session'! If anyone would like to sponsor them, they have their own everyclick account: fundraisers.everyclick.com/castledongreyhoundrescuesponsoredwalk ;D When you reach the page, just click on the green 'Give Now' button. This will bring up a new box entitled 'More Ways to Give'. Scroll down to the pink 'Donate' button and there you are! Or if anyone would like to join us, let me know and i'll post out a sponsor form for you

The time for the Barleylands Fun Walk is getting ever closer - can't quite believe how fast the year is passing us by! Thank you to those of you who have very kindly sponsored us so far - every penny counts! If there's anyone out there who would still like to sponsor Jezza, Ruby & Elsa you can do so either via our Everyclick fundraising page: fundraisers.everyclick.com/castledongreyhoundrescuesponsoredwalk or by sending your pledge to me via. pm or email (then i'll add you to our paper sponsor form) If anyone is planning on taking part, if you could let me know on here so that we can arrange to meet up together Thanks! xx

Well, it's only a week until the big walk! Jezza, Ruby & Elsa are looking forward to strutting their stuff for Castledon and will be wearing their Castledon jackets. For those of you who are joining us, we haven't got to meet until 12.30 (- not 11.30 as I put on the sponsor form - that was the time for the marshalls to meet : There's plenty of free parking in the big field and we''ll all be meeting by the barn. Looking forward to a good day!

Phew! Just seen the weather forecast and it looks like tomorrow is going to be even hotter than today! Not wanting to state the bleedin' obvious, can I ask that anyone who's coming along to the walk brings plenty of water for their hound (and themselves!). Maybe a thin towel that you can wet and put over your dog's back to keep them cool would be a good idea, too. If it really is as hot as they say, I think that we'd be better doing the short walk around the Barleylands estate. It still qualifies for the sponsored walk, so there's no problem there. I'm sure you'll all agree our hounds wellbeing comes first Best paws forward and looking forward to seeing you tomorrow! ;D

We didi it! ;D Due to the extremely hot weather, we opted to do the short walk and the dogs were very grateful that we did, I think! We were joined by Valerie with Stella and Sam and her family with Cara and Aussie. Here are a few pics.... Chilling in the shade before the walk The Castledon Crew ready for the off.... wait for us! a rest and drink in the shade We made it! Elsa, Ruby, Jezza & Stella posing with their Certificate and walk medals A very BIG well done to the dogs, who were, as usual, a credit to their breed (- even Jezza, who let a group of Scouts pat him without barking at them once! ) Thank you to Valerie and Sam & family for venturing out in the heat - your support is very much appreciated And thank you very much to everyone who has sponsored us If anyone would still like to sponsor us, you can still do so via our everyclick page: fundraisers.everyclick.com/castledongreyhoundrescuesponsoredwalkOnce all the sponsor monies are in, i'll let you know how much we've raised Just got to wake the dogs up now for their dinner......zzzzzz
