You may or may not know that I work for the Post Office as a counter clerk at Leigh on sea Crown office ( - well, someone has to do it and it keeps my dogs in dog food! ) Anyway, usually the fundraising efforts of the Post Office are for a nationally nominated charity, which I have a problem with. They're always large charities that pay huge amounts to chief executives, meaning that much of the money raised for the charity goes in paying their wages and admin, advertising etc. However, this year it has been decided that each office may pick their own charity to raise funds for. Thanks to my lovely colleagues, Castledon has been chosen to be our nominated charity What we're planning to do is to have a sort of awareness day & Meet and Greet on Saturday - i'll hopefully be taking a dog from the kennels along and we'll be doing a 'Guess the Racing Name of the greyhound', where people pay £1 a go to pick a name from a list. The winner will win a hamper, donated by the staff It's only for 4 hours, but hopefully the good people of Leigh on sea will be generous ( - if not, i'll redirect their mail, lol!) Will try and get some photos and will let you know how it goes.....

Sounds really great Andrea - well done you.
I must agree with you about huge national charities - if you look at their info on the Charities Commission website you often see that they have literally £millions in the bank that they cannot spend. Yet still people raise more and more for them - especially celebrities as its good for their media profile.
Don't get me wrong they all do a great job but a fraction of what they get in a year would keep small charities such as Castledon going for decades.
Good luck for Saturday - I'm sure it will be a real success.

Me 'n Guinness had a lovely morning at Leigh on sea Post Office ( - not very often that I can say that I enjoy going to work! ) Guinness was an absolute star - she loved all of the attention and won lots of hearts. She was a real credit to both Castledon and to greyhounds as a breed Have just added up the contents of the collection pots and so far we have £165, which is amazing! We still have a few bits and pieces left that we're going to put out to sell next week, so hopefully we can reach £200 - and with the Post Office matching whatever we raise, we should be able to hit £400 in total! ;D A very BIG thank you to all of my colleagues who have been very supportive - you truly are a fantastic bunch of people! I didn't take any photos but some were taken and i'll get them to email me them over on Monday. Watch this space.........

UPDATE ON FUNDRAISER AMOUNT....... Yesterday, I added the contents of the collection pot to the total that we raised last Saturday and my colleagues changed up the contents of their Smartie tubes and added that, too The grand total is a whopping £192!I'm going to add an extra £10 so that we go above £200, meaning that the Post Office will add an extra £200 to the total Well done, Guinness - couldn't have done it without you! ;D
